Joshua is a multidisciplinary artist who works across drawing, painting, graphic design, craft, and sculpture to depict subjects like migrant survival and cultural resilience. His lived experience of growing up in the Philippines and Australia inform the subject of his works, navigating his sense of belonging between his native and adoptive homes. His work is contextualised by the personal tension between the rejection and acceptance of his cultural identity, which Joshua acknowledges is influenced by the colonial and imperial histories of the Philippines and Australia. Joshua responds to this tension by creating a space where he can openly interrogate the pluralities of his identity and celebrate cultural resilience, allowing him agency in expressing himself in his work.
Joshua received the Dean's List Award for Academic Excellence upon the completion of his Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) in 2022 at UNSW Art, Design & Architecture. His has also been a finalist at the Tim Olsen Drawing Prize in 2020 and 2021.
